Wholly Organic Smashed Avocado with Sea Salt Review

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Pulmuone Beef Stir Fry Noodles and the Del Real Foods Pupusas.

Avocado is a staple in my house but I don’t often buy guacamole or packages of prepared avocado like this Wholly Avocado Organic Smashed Avocado with Sea Salt. I thought my toddler might like them in her daycare lunch and I love guacamole with the Kirkland Signature Corn Chip Dippers so I picked a box up to try.

You get 12 cups of smashed avocado for $14.99 Canadian which isn’t cheap, you’re definitely paying for convenience. The cost of avocados on their own has also gone up over the past few years so keep that in mind also.

Each mini cup of avocado has a peel off top and a best before date that’s just under a month from when I purchased them. They need to be kept refrigerated and are extremely convenient to pop in a lunch bag! Some suggestions on how to use the smashed avocado are on toast, with chips or raw veggies, with crackers, in tacos, sandwiches or salad.

One cup contains 110 calories, nine grams of fat, five grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, zero grams of sugar, one gram of protein and 150 milligrams of sodium. The difference between these cups and guacamole is that these smashed avocado cups only contain two ingredients, avocado and sea salt. Guacamole usually contains tomato, onions, lime juice and some jalapenos.

I like these cups but prefer the individual guacamole cups because I usually use these convenient  cups as a dip for crackers, chips or veggies and I find the smashed avocado is really lacking in flavor because it’s just avocado and salt. I think these would be great if you use them for avocado toast or in recipes where you don’t want guacamole. The texture is nice, there’s a few chunks of avocado but I’m missing the tomato and onion. They also taste very fresh. Overall I find these a bit bland and find the guacamole cups a lot more flavorful so I recommend those over these ones.

Cost: 7/10
