This lasagna can’t compete with Kirkland Signature Lasagna!

Costco has a ton of new holiday food products I can’t wait to try so if you enjoy reading Costco food products reviews follow me on Instagram or Facebook and also check out my blog Costcuisine where I review tons of Costco food products each week! Last week I posted a review for the Costco Burnbrae Farms Egg Bakes, Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Dark Chocolate Belgian Thins and also posted a list of my all time favorite cookbooks that I use to make delicious recipes!
Lasagna is a great winter comfort food – it’s delicious and there are some good premade options that make it convenient too. I picked up a two-pack of the Zinetti Meat Lasagna the last time that I was at Costco, and this past snowy Saturday was the perfect day to pop it in the oven to try.
Taste
The Zinetti Meat Lasagna was pretty tasty, but I have to say that I definitely prefer the Costco Kirkland Signature Lasagna over it. I made that decision after my first bite. This lasagna is very reasonably priced and its taste reflects that. I say reasonably priced rather than cheap because even though that’s probably a fair description of the price, I think the word has a negative connotation and would undersell the taste/quality of this lasagna a bit – there’s nothing wrong with it. As you might expect, there isn’t an abundance of meat in it; most of what’s there is mixed into the sauce. Unfortunately I found a few hard, inedible pieces of meat in the piece of lasagna that I had. My husband didn’t seem to have the same issue with his pieces though. The sauce tasted good and was flavorful. There was a moderate amount of cheese on top that I broiled to make it a little crispy/slightly burned (the way I like it). The noodles were al dente and not too hard or too soft. There was a decent amount of ricotta between the noodles. The two cheese flavors I could taste were mozzarella and ricotta; I didn’t really taste the parmesan or Romano. Overall, this lasagna wasn’t the best lasagna I’ve had, or even the best lasagna I’ve had from Costco, but it tasted alright for the price!
Cost
A two-pack with each lasagna weighing 1.5 kilograms cost $14.79 Canadian (regular price). The size of the Kirkland Signature Lasagna varies a bit, but basically you’re getting two of these lasagnas for the price of one Costco Kirkland Signature Meat Lasagna. I thought the Costco Kirkland Signature Meat Lasagnas were made fresh in the store until the last time I bought one – I picked it up as they were being put out and it was actually frozen, so I’m not sure how often they’re made and sold fresh versus being shipped in from somewhere else frozen (or at least being stored frozen for a while after being made).
Convenience
This lasagna was super convenient to heat up! You bake the lasagna frozen (right after taking it out of the freezer) for about 80 minutes total at 380 degrees Fahrenheit. The lasagna comes with a plastic film over top and you lift one corner to let steam escape prior to popping it in the oven on a baking sheet. The plastic film comes off for the last 15 minutes of cook time. I broiled my lasagna for about a minute at the end because I like my cheese crispy! I love how you don’t have to defrost the lasagna prior to baking it and can cook it straight out of the freezer. That makes it perfect for those nights when you need a last-minute dinner. One lasagna easily fed my husband and I (he ate a large portion and we had leftovers). I think one could feed two adults and two kids just fine, but might leave four adults feeling a bit peckish.
Nutrition
A seventh of the 1.5 kilogram tray of lasagna contains 330 calories, 11 grams of fat, 620 milligrams of sodium, 32 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, six grams of sugar and 21 grams of protein. That’s actually a nice amount of protein! The sodium is definitely on the high side and yes, there are a lot of carbs (it is lasagna after all), but this isn’t the worst thing you could eat nutrition-wise. The ingredients list isn’t super long, and all of the ingredients are ones that I would expect to find in a lasagna.
I won’t have any problem eating the second Zinnetti Meat Lasagna in my freezer and look forward to having it on a night where I’m feeling lazy! It’s a cheap and easy dinner that actually tastes pretty good on a cold winter night!

What’s your favorite kind of lasagna from Costco? Does anyone else miss the chicken lasagna with white sauce they used to have?
I miss the chicken lasagna they used to sell.
The six individual packs of this lasagna is a staple in our house. bake from frozen in a 360 oven for about 45 minutes. Because it is individual portions, no leftovers and very easy if only one person is home for wither lunch or dinner. If you have a hearty appetite, you may want a salad and garlic bread with it.. It may not have enough cheese for your liking, so I just put some freshly grated parm and/or a slice of harvarti or Monterey Jack cheese chopped up on it before baking.
We rarely buy any convenience foods but I do buy this and LOVE it!
I don’t find it salty or dry. I think it’s a good price and would highly recommend it.
