Hi Everyone!
Here is another Recall Notice for a Costco Product that is pretty popular 🙁 The recall says it has been recalled due to possible harmful bacteria due to improper cooking instructions on the box.
Ottawa, March 6, 2017 – JD Sweid Foods (2013) Ltd. is recalling Hampton House brand Chicken Strips from the marketplace due to an error in the preparation instructions on the label. The oven preparation instructions on the label should read: “Preheat to 204°C (400°F)”. The product may contain harmful bacteria that may cause food illnesses.
If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.
Check to see if you have recalled product in your home. Recalled product should be returned to the store where it was purchased.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
This recall was triggered by the company. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.
The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled product from the marketplace.
Costco does keep track of each member’s purchases and does attempt to contact members who may have purchased the recalled product through an automated phone system. This is a good time to go to the membership desk to make sure they have the correct contact information for you (especially if you have moved or changed phone numbers since you have originally purchased your membership).
Did you know that Costco lists all product recalls on its website Costco.ca (under Product Notices on the bottom menu) and in-store? In the stores I have visited, the product recall list is on a bulletin board usually near the exit of the store by employees checking receipts.
Costco has also posted a bulletin available here: http://healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/inspection/2017/62500r-eng.php

I just cook ours at 400 like I always do. No need to return
Very strange. I just bought the hampton house chicken strips yesterday at Costco in BC as they were on sale at my local Costco. I only discovered recall post today. The instructions on the chicken says 375 (vs 400), cook for 25-30 mins.
Should I return this??? Its the resealable 2 kg bag.
I hope this is not the recalled product…. otherwise why could Costco put it on sale?
Thanks for visiting the blog. The Hampton House Chicken Strips that are currently on sale in BC are not recalled. You can use the instructions printed on the box
I have the ones in the bag- is this included in the recall as well?
I was wondering why all my chicken strips were raw when I took them out of the oven.
It says “on box”… The Hampton chicken strips I’ve bought are in a bag.. so is it these ones in a bag too?
It’s a great excuse to take a half eaten package back and get a whole knew one!
Interesting, I always end up cooking these for longer than and higher for the stated time/temperature anyway since they seem soggy if I don’t!
Thanks for the heads up. I had noticed that the cooking directions were different on the regular vs buffalo kind, which I thought was weird.
I think as long as you cook them to an internal temp of 165F they are probably safe to eat. You can pick up a meat thermometer for a few dollars which is really the only way to know for sure that something is properly cooked.
I am curious what instructions are on it as well.
I am certain if you follow standard food practices that anyone who has been cooking for a while knows (cook to an internal temp of 165F Minimum) everyone will be fine…
What do the instructions say on them as is…..?
From the text of the recall, this is only due to incorrect instructions on the package. I imagine that it should be safe to eat as long as you preheat your oven and follow the instructions otherwise.
We’re lucky in North America. I was in Taiwan last month and their food safety practices are poor. Fried food such as eggs or roasted meat left outside for long periods of time under a slightly warm heat lamp even in 5 star restaurants is not uncommon. Even the flight there and back served warm meals when it should be hot. Several people who were on the flight got travellers diarrhea.
