IMPORTANT! Newsletter Migration Update & User Requests

Hi Everyone!

NEWSLETTER UPDATE

I hope you are all dong well!  My developer has been hard at work on the website updates.  Thank you to all the paid members who have contributed and made this possible!  We have successfully migrated our newsletter to a new service, since our previous service (Google Feedburner) is ending this month.

The one problem is that many of these E-mails are being directed directly to SPAM folders.  Please check your SPAM folder to see if the newsletter is being sent there instead!  The E-mail will come from Costco West Fan Blog (info@cocowest.ca)

If your service like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail, please check off the “not SPAM” button so that these mail services know that this E-mail is NOT SPAM.

You can also add info@cocowest.ca to your E-mail address book.  This way your mail provider will know not to send these E-mails to your SPAM folder.

OTHER WEBSITE UPDATES

Believe it or not, we are still data entering all the old photos into our search engine!  We have successfully entered 33457 photos into the database and we have just under 30,000 photos left.  As of now, the photos go back to April, 2019.

USER REQUESTS

Now that the newsletter & search engine has been completed, we have time to work on some user requests!  I’d love to hear from you on what improvements are next!

Right now, we are working on the following tasks:

  1. Return colour photos back to the price tag
  2. Improve the quality of the price tag in the photos
  3. Making photos clickable to load a High Quality version of the photo
  4. Adding a price history button in the caption of each photo to load historical sale data

After this, I have some ideas that I would like to get to, but I would love to hear from you!  If you have any ideas on additional functionality for the blog, please let me know in the comments!

  1. Absolutely the one thing I would like to be able to do is create a list or somehow check off the items that you need. In some flyer apps tapping on an item will put a big circle around it (Sobeys – I believe). Many times now,I think I am going to remember an item I see on your list, but then find myself scrolling to try and find it while I’m in the store. A list would save a lot of time. Thanks for all the great work and the big help you’ve been, and thank you for taking suggestions.

  2. I hope you will go back to posting the nutritional info (and ingredients, if it’s possible). I remember you put this on hold when the pandemic first hit as it wasn’t appropriate to touch an item that you were not planning to purchase.

My other request, although it may not be possible, would be to have a “create list” feature. Safeway has an awesome app for this, but it likely won’t work via email. Anyway, a girl’s gotta dream!

Even if these two requests can’t be implemented, I sincerely appreciate the extensive time and effort you put into these posts each week.

  3. Posting errors are common,: there’s a captcha error message and you have to repost several times before it goes through.

  4. Hi, thanks for the blog/service!

Feature request/bug: the “Dark mode” button doesn’t really do anything, but it would be great if it did!

  5. Hoping as the pandemic restrictions ease we can get back to including the nutrition info to the pics. Super helpful. Great work—thanks for all you’re doing!

  6. Thank you so much for all you do and I’m gladly paying for the service. It’s awesome. We live 90 minutes away from a costco so it’s great to know what’s on sale so we can in the week when we need lots of the sale items. Keep up the good work. It’s appreciated.

    • Hi Jan, As we switched over newsletter services, I have been running both services simultaneously to make sure everything is working. The old newsletter service is now turned off and you should not receive any more duplicate E-mails.

  7. Would it be possible to have like sale items posted together by department like all snack items, all health and beauty, etc. I understand you take the pictures as you walk through the warehouse but since not every warehouse is exactly the same I find your posts a little all over the place (not saying this is bad) or even be able to search by department. Just my thoughts. I’m a happily paying customer as I find your blog invaluable.

    • Hi Denise, Good Idea, I’ll have to give this some thought. Costco has a lot of product categories and figuring out which product fits in each category would be a challenge unto itself! I know the system Costco uses to categorize items and there are dozens of categories!

    • Hi Sara, As we switched over newsletter services, I have been running both services simultaneously to make sure everything is working. The old newsletter service is now turned off and you should not receive any more duplicate E-mails.

  8. I appreciate everything that you do and really don’t have anything other than that to offer!

  9. If there’s one request I’d like to make, it’s the ability to choose which weekly emails to subscribe to. I like receiving the notifications for the Tuesday post (and sometimes the Saturday post), but I don’t really need an email for all of the posts. Especially the superpost stuff – I’ve been to Costco before, I know what they have.
