COVID Special Operating Hours for Seniors ending April 18, 2022

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that As of April 18, 2022, Costco will no longer be offering special shopping hours for members ages 60 or older, healthcare workers and first responders.

https://www.costco.ca/coronavirus-response.html

Beginning August 23, 2021, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Costco has been temporarily implementing special operating hours for members who are 60 and older or who have a physical disability.

Costco was temporarily allowing priority access to our warehouses for Costco members who are healthcare workers and first responders such as police officers, EMTs and firefighters. Healthcare workers (which include Pharmacists and all hospital employees with a hospital ID) and first responders who present a Costco membership card and official identification of their role, will be allowed to move to the front of any line to enter the warehouse.

  1. re: “Members not wanting to shop during regular hours can visit Costco.ca for all their shopping needs.”

“All shopping needs”, except for perishable items such as food.

“Learning to live with Covid” means “living smartly and safely for all”. The new normal is not the old normal, and should include protective health protocols. “Hand washing” was studied in 1800s and in 1990s, CDC recommended “waterless antiseptic agent”. We’re a bit slow to adopt new protocols. 🙂

    stay smart, stay safe, everyone!!

  2. Didn’t they remove special hours for the disabled a while ago, too?

I think you’re overlooking the intent of the program. It wasn’t to give seniors (or anyone) an advantage. It was put in place to reduce or mitigate seniors’ risks in acquiring COVID for seniors who are at higher risk.

With first responders, they often buy for the workplace so they get first dibs on the items. There is no need for it now.

  3. Don’t fret folks. World data suggests another wave is on its way this year. Enjoy your summer with the absence of COVID-19 safety protocols. Senior hours and mask mandates will return no later than the fall of 2022.

  4. I hope there is some way that Costco can be informed on behalf of us seniors that their early shopping hours were not just appreciated, it made a very significant difference when some items were so hard to acquire.
