Philippine Brand Dried Young Coconut Review

Philippine Brand Dried Young Coconut

A little sweet for my liking!

Hi it’s Natalie from the Costco food and product review fan blog  Costcuisine! If you like my reviews for Costco food products the greatest thing you can do is follow me on  Instagram or Facebook and also tell yours friends about my blog Costcuisine where I review tons of Costco food products each week!  In the last week I reviewed the Costco Oat Canada Oat Milk, Costco Dessert Italiano Caramel Macchiato Desserts and the Costco Kirkland Signature Chocolate Celebration Cake

Today I’m reviewing a product that I’ve always been a little curious about! The Philippine Brand Young Dried Young Coconut from Costco!

Cost

The 510 oz bag of dried young coconut cost $9.99 Canadian. Since I’ve never tried a product like this before I don’t have much to compare the cost to!

Convenience

I’ll point out that the coconut needs to be refrigerated after opening, we almost missed that on the bag. The best before date is over a year from the date I purchased the product, that’s a long time! When we tried this we thought it might be good added to ice cream or even added to coconut yogurt. It also makes a convenient snack or dessert.

Nutrition

A 42 gram serving is 150 calories, two grams of fat, 18 grams of sugar, one gram of protein, eight grams of fibre, 30 grams of carbohydrates and 25 mg of sodium. The ingredients list is super short. Coconut, sugar and a preservative.

Taste

I can’t say I loved this. The texture is fine and it tastes just like super sugary coconut but both my husband and I noticed it to have a weird savory aftertaste that lingers after you’ve finished eating a bite. The aftertaste is hard to describe but it wasn’t pleasant. The consistency is similar to dried mango. Overall I found the young dried coconut much too sweet and think I might have enjoyed it more if it were a little less sweet and didn’t have a funky aftertaste!

I didn’t love this enough to repurchase it again even though I really do like all things coconut!

Taste: 6/10

Cost: 6/10

Convenience: 10/10

Nutrition: 3/10 (for the fibre)

Have you tried this product? What did you think?

  1. It’s absolutely delicious! Too bad Costco doesn’t carry it anymore, but I just bought 4 bags on Amazon.
    Yea!
They also have Mango, so I bought one to try… I’m betting it’s just as delicious!

  2. Never buy a dried coconut Meat or coconut juice Here because it taste Old and gross. Even the fresh one from the store that is still in the coconut shell or the actual fruit because its just a waste of money. I have tasted the real fresh coconut from the tree so i know the difference.

  3. I love the coconut. It is also too sweet for me so I rinse it under water first and then there is no funky taste and there is much less sugar

  4. I agree with you. I love coconut but not this one, for all the reasons you mentioned. Bought once and will not buy it again.
