Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Kirkland Signature French Onion Meatball Bake, Costco Ajinomoto Japanese Style Gyoza and the Costco Kirkland Signature Cinnamon Roll Mini Cakes.

I’ve tried the regular Nature Valley granola bars before but I’ve never tried the protein version so I picked up a box to try. There are 30 bars in the box and I paid $19.99 Canadian which isn’t cheap but is less expensive than the cost of other protein bars. There’s more bars in the box compared to other protein bars but they also have less protein in them per bar than some of the others.
Each bar comes individually packaged and there are 30 bars in the box. They’re not school safe due to having lots of peanuts in them and I also wouldn’t recommend them for young kids because they’re a choking hazard. The best before date on the bars is only less than three months from when I bought them which I found a bit surprising.
One bar contains 200 calories, 12 grams of fat, 15 grams of carbohydrates, six grams of fibre, seven grams of sugar, 10 grams of protein and 160 milligrams of sodium. Personally, I expect a bit more protein in something labelled as a “protein bar” but 10 grams isn’t terrible. The ingredients list is full of unhealthy oils and sugar like corn syrup and fructose so I wouldn’t say these are healthy or nutritious.
These taste like a candy/chocolate bar to me which isn’t an uncommon taste when it comes to protein bars. They have a chocolate base and on top of that is peanuts, soy protein crisps and chocolate chips that are covered in sugar/corn syrup. They’re crunchy, chewy and a bit hard but not break your teeth hard. If you’re craving something sweet, they definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. They’re tasty but I wouldn’t purchase them in hopes I’m buying something nutritious or healthy.
