Okay so today I’m reviewing the Costco Kirkland Signature Organic Roasted Seaweed Snack! When I first saw this seaweed at Costco I was intrigued because I’ve never seen seaweed as a snack! I’ve only ever had seaweed in prepared meals or in sushi. I decided to pick up a pack to try.
Cost
I paid $12.99 Canadian (regular price) for the 10 packs of seaweed.
Convenience
You get one big pack of 10 individual 17 gram packs of seaweed! The individual packs are easy to bring to work or school in your lunch and also convenient to just have at home! The best before date was almost a year from when we purchased it as well. You could use this seaweed in many different ways, you can eat it plain or sprinkle over rice or even a salad.
Nutrition
One package is 100 calories, one gram of fibre, three grams of protein, 200 mg of sodium and nine grams of fat. The ingredients list is short and sweet with only four ingredients listed!
Taste
So I have to be VERY real with you here. I found out trying this that I don’t like seaweed as a snack and didn’t enjoy the taste of this at all! It didn’t taste bad and it definitely tasted like actual seaweed with some salt but I wasn’t loving the flavor of plain seaweed. I felt like I was missing the rest of the sushi roll. The taste is earthy, salty and has that unique seaweed flavor. However my brother-in-law who does enjoy snacking on seaweed told me he really enjoyed this when I gave him some to try! So I think it’s a matter of personal taste, if you know you already like plain seaweed you’ll probably enjoy this.
I wouldn’t buy this again for myself because I just couldn’t stand the taste but seaweed is known to have protective antioxidants, helps thyroid function and is a great source of vitamins and minerals.
Cost: 6/10
Convenience: 10/10
Nutrition: 9/10
Taste: 5/10 (I didn’t like it at all but my seaweed loving brother-in-law did!)
What do you think? Do you like or dislike seaweed as a snack?
We’ve been buying these regularly for awhile now. My husband and I really like them as a great little snack.
I love this as a low carb snack!
Nope, horrible. Like you said Sushi yes! Sheets no!!
This seaweed cost is 10/10!! Way cheaper than anywhere else and larger size packages at Costco.
As a Korean, myself, I don’t eat this as a snack. I eat it with rice as a meal. I wrap rice with it and eat it. Sometimes with fresh shredded veggies like cucumbers and some lettuce. It’s one of my favorite food.
I was glad I got to sample this one in store, because like you, I was intrigued. But also like you I did not like it at all.
