Recall Warning – Certain HP Notebook Computer Batteries

Here is another recall warning for laptop computer batteries.  It seems like batteries everywhere being recalled!  Even though some readers may have not bought one of these laptops from Costco, they may have an HP Laptop Computer for work or home that may be affected by this recall.

Costco Canada is recalling certain Toshiba laptop computer models purchased between June 25, 2013 and August 31, 2014 in Canada.

HP is voluntarily recalling some of the batteries that were sold with this product as they have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard.
Please go to the HP Battery Recall website at to validate your battery. If you believe you have one of the affected batteries in your possession, immediately stop using the recalled battery and contact HP through the website, or call: Canada/USA: 1-888-202-4320 (8a.m.to7 p.m., CST, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays) will provide a replacement battery for each verified, affected battery at no cost. You may continue to use your notebook without the battery installed, by connecting the notebook to the external power.
Note: Only a small percentage of these products were sold with an affected battery.  The validation process may show that your battery is not affected by this recall program, in which case you can continue to use the battery in your possession; a replacement is not necessary.

Costco does keep track of each member’s purchases and does attempt to contact members who may have purchased the recalled product through an automated phone system.  This is a good time to go to the membership desk to make sure they have the correct contact information for you (especially if you have moved or changed phone numbers since you have originally purchased your membership).

Did you know that Costco lists all product recalls on its website (under Product Notices on the bottom menu) and in-store?  In the stores I have visited, the product recall list is on a bulletin board usually near the exit of the store by employees checking receipts.

Costco has also posted a bulletin available here:
