Bobo’s PB&Js Review

Last week on the blog I reviewed the Costco Kirkland Signature Crepes, Costco Kirkland Signature Beef Birria Burrito Bowl and the Costco Maison Bruyere Almond Crisps. I also posted my Top Ten Costco Chocolates, Treats & Snacks for Christmas

When I was browsing through Costco last weekend I decided to try these Bobo’s PB&Js oat bars because they’re gluten-free AND vegan so I was curious how they tasted!

The box cost $21.99 Canadian and comes with 20 individually wrapped oat bars. That’s not cheap, over a dollar a bar. The bars are shaped like a cookie though and are quite large.

Each bar is individually wrapped which is great for packing them in a lunch, storing them i2n your desk at work or bringing them anywhere on the go. The best before date is about five months from when I purchased them. There are two flavors in the box, strawberry and grape. Unfortunately because they contain peanut butter these aren’t school safe which is a big drawback in my opinion because I think they’d be awesome for kids to have as a snack.

The oat bars have 230 calories, eight grams of fat, 39 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre and 16 to 17 grams of sugar. The ingredients list has sugar as the first ingredient listed for both flavors. Other than that there’s mainly just peanut butter, oats and coconut oil with a few other ingredients.

The texture of the oat bars is soft and chewy which I like, you get the texture from the whole oats that kind of stick to your teeth. The peanut butter is mixed into the bar part, not the filling. The filling is just the strawberry/grape jam. The strawberry flavor is good but it doesn’t really taste totally like strawberry. It’s sweet and fruity but doesn’t have that distinct strawberry flavor. The grape isn’t as good as the strawberry and also doesn’t have a real distinct grape flavor. It’s just like a sweet flavor that almost tasted like fig or date to me.

Overall, these are like a soft, chewy, peanut butter oatmeal cookie with a jam filling in the center. I like them but don’t love the grape flavor. If you’re following a gluten-free, vegan diet you might want to check them out for a sweet treat. I think kids would like them.
