A great idea for a party appetizer!

Costco always has a ton of new food products I review to see more of my  reviews follow me on Instagram or Facebook and also check out my blog Costcuisine where I review tons of Costco food products each week! Last week I posted a review for the Costco Kirkland Signature Plain Bagels, Costco Starbucks Winter Blend Coffee and Costco Kraft Chocolate Peanut Butter Powder.

When my husband and I went to pick up some last minute frozen appetizers from Costco on Christmas Eve at about 3pm we were pretty terrified of how busy it was going to be but I have to tell you, it was completely empty. We were both in shock and in awe. There was only a handful of people in the store and we didn’t wait in line at all to pay for the few boxes of frozen appetizers we picked up. One of those appetizers is the P.S.I’s Grande Gourmet Breaded Coconut Shrimp that I’m reviewing today!

Cost

These aren’t exactly cheap but shrimp is usually not the cheapest item to buy. I paid  $18.99 Canadian for the 1.13 kg box of 40-50 coconut shrimp.

Convenience

These were VERY easy to heat up in the oven. I lined a cookie sheet with parchment paper and followed the package directions and they turned out golden brown and crispy. Inside the box is a large plastic bag of shrimp that doesn’t reseal (so I used an elastic bland to seal it back up)  and there’s four sweet chili sauce packets in the box as well.

Nutrition

Not the healthiest appetizer four shrimp with sauce is 270 calories, fifteen grams of fat, 530 mg of sodium, 22 grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fibre, 10 grams of sugar, and nine grams of protein. There’s definitely a good amount of sodium, fat and sugar in the shrimp and sauce!

Taste

I baked the shrimp in the oven following the package directions and was pretty concerned that I was going to end up with soggy, non-crispy shrimp because I wasn’t frying them. I had no reason to fret, these came out very crispy and not soggy at all! Even my husband remarked that he was impressed by the crispiness. I really enjoyed the P.S.I’s Grand Gourmet Breaded Coconut Shrimp. There’s decent sized tasty shrimp coated in a crispy slightly sweet breadcrumb batter with real coconut flakes on top. The box comes with a thin sweet chili sauce that compliments the shrimp by adding a little bit of heat to the sweet.

The Costco P.S.I’s Grande Gourmet Coconut Shrimp are perfect for the holiday season or for your Superbowl party! Despite my fear that they’d be soggy after baking them in the oven they turned out crispy, crunchy and golden brown.
