Garnier Ombrelle Complete & Garnier Ombrelle Kids Sunscreen Review
For those of you who have been visiting the blog for a long time, you may have remembered that I took a break from the blog two years ago to take my family on a once in a lifetime trip to South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand! We left on New Years Day and came back to Canada in May.
We were a little paranoid since we were traveling with 2 little ones and so we ended up bringing a HUGE amount sunscreen and mosquito repellent with us. Our family is all blessed with sensitive skin and eczema, so we have to be really careful about the sunscreen that we use. We were putting on sunscreen twice a day (or more if we were swimming) and we wanted to make sure the sunscreen we put on did not react with our skin.
Mom and Dad had developed some sunscreen requirements:
- Must be 60 SPF or higher with broad spectrum protection
- Must be water resistant for swimming
- Must absorb into the skin without giving your skin a white/purple colour
- Must be safe for children
- Must be fragrance free
- Must be hypoallergenic
- Must be travel friendly (no aerosol cans)
We were happy to find that Garnier Ombrelle Kids Sunscreen met all of the criteria! We bought our entire supply of sunscreen for the trip at Costco because it was a great price and we needed a lot!
We have been recently using Garnier Ombrelle Complete for an everyday sunscreen and to be honest it just feels like you are just putting on moisturizer. The Garnier Ombrelle Complete absorbs really well into your skin without leaving that typical greasy sunscreen feeling. There is a slight fragrance, but less so than with most sunscreens and it did not react with my skin even after working up a sweat in hot weather. This sunscreen is not waterproof like Ombrelle Kids sunscreen but does feel a bit nicer on the skin. If you are not planning on going swimming, I would choose this one.
Over the entire trip, we had no sunburns and no allergic reactions or rashes which is pretty good considering we used this sunscreen for months straight at least twice a day. If you haven’t tried this sunscreen, pick one up on your next shopping trip and give it a try! The expiry date on the sunscreen is over 2 years away!
On our trip, my daughter decided she would try putting sunscreen on by her face by herself for the first time in this photo – it is one of the first times she purposefully tried to make me laugh – it isn’t the best photo, but it is one of my favorites from the trip.

I bought this last time I was in Costco, they are awesome!
I usually get itchiness from other sunscreens so I am hesitant to buy a new brand.
This one I bought to put on my body and I tried on my face to see if it itches. No signs of redness at all and great protection against the UV light. Def recommend.
I would refrain from using sunscreen on my child. I would only use sunblock as it is less irritating to people with large pores…(all non Caucasians)
There “are” penetrations of chemicals in “all sunscreens” after applied! do your homework.
