RECALL NOTICE: Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles – Choking Hazard

Hi Everyone,

I have some bad news for people who (like my family) are big fans of the Contigo Kids Water Bottles. I have purchased Kids Contigo Water Bottles before, but I have the ones with the snack tray that I bought last year and it does not look like these ones are affected. I know my daughter does put this silicone spout through lots of wear and tear though.

The manufacturer’s website has a form to fill out to order a replacement top, but if you bought these products through Costco, you are better off returning them for a full refund. You can do this even if you don’t have the receipt since Costco guarantees each product that they sell.

Product description

This recall involves Contigo Kids Cleanable water bottles. Only water bottles with a black colour spout base and black colour spout cover are included in this recall. Contigo is printed on the rim and along the front near the bottom of the bottle. The water bottles come in three sizes (13 ounce, 14 ounce and 20 ounce) and four bottle colors (solid color, graphics, stainless steel and stainless steel solid colors). The water bottles were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs.

Hazard identified

The water bottle’s clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.

As of August 20, 2019, the company has received 30 reports of the spout detaching in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 149 reports of the spout detaching and no reports of injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 157,000 units of the affected product were sold in Canada, approximately 5.7 million were sold in the United States, and approximately 28,000 were sold in Mexico.
