Costco Flyer & Costco Sale Items for May 18-24, 2020, for BC, AB, SK, MB

Location: Still Creek Burnaby, BC Costco Warehouse

Hi Everyone,

This morning was the first morning that hairdressers were allowed to open, so this morning before I went to Costco, I got a haircut.  My last haircut was in early February and even though I bought the Wahl Hair Clippers, my wife was a little hesitant to use them on me.  I also since our hot water system stopped working on Saturday morning, I had to pick up a part from the plumbing supply store.

Anyways, the line at Costco in Burnaby was short.  Since I had a couple of chores to do in the morning, I got into the line at 9:58AM and was in the store by 10:05AM.  I noticed that the Optical Department, the Photo Centre (including ink refills) is now open again  as well as the Mobile Phone Shop.  The hearing department was still closed as far as I could tell.

As for sales this week, We have the quickshelter and the giant golf umbrella and we got good use of them last year.  The Kirkland Signature Raisin Brioche Swirls and Butter Chicken have great reviews. My kids love the frozen perogies and the Pure Angus Beef Burgers so I grabbed a couple of those.

So, I bought some cherries on a whim last Friday and they were almost as good as the in season Okanagan cherries we get.  The cherries were sweet and the stems were green and fresh.  Pick some up if you have a chance and I don’t think you will be disappointed.  The only bad thing is the mess the children make when they are eating them.  With the rain we have had over the weekend, it meant lots of red stains inside.

I wanted to give everyone an update on the redesign of the blog since there has been quite a lot of progress!  We’ve hired our developer & designer and have started work on the project.  We are starting work on the new product search functionality, so you will be able to look up historical pricing and sales.  After that we will be working on the redesign of the blog.  Our goal is to get everything implemented in three months.  I’m excited that this project is finally moving ahead and to see some increased functionality and navigability in the new format.

That being said, if you are looking to help me help support this new website upgrade, I have re-opened the “FOUNDERS” discount for the Early Access to the blog.  The Early Access gives you access to the Monday posts on Monday afternoon instead of Tuesday Morning at a cost of $19.97 for one year (52 weeks).  You will also have the option of signing up for a new customizable mailing list so you can choose to the updates you want.  If you decide to purchase an Early Access Membership and use the discount code “FOUNDERS” before 2020-08-31, you will get $10 off your annual membership AND have that rate grandfathered forever!

  1. Hi there,

I kept meaning to contact you about selecting your Costco blogs as two of our favourites on our 10 Best Frugal Living blogs. I think your blogs are incredible, and wanted you to know you’d been included on our list.

Thanks for all the work you do!!

  2. Hi there! I am thinking of buying their Napoleon bbq online and wondering if they ever have sales on the before it is end of season? Thanks!!

  3. same issue as others trying to see the photos. huge white spaces and taking tine to load then just stopped altogether. however, i just tried on my laptop using firefox and it’s fine. i was on my phone earlier using chrome.
btw, thanks for all your posts 🙂

  4. Thanks for answering my question, and for offering the option of paid membership or free access. You rock!

  5. The most impressive part of your post is that you mentioned getting a haircut. Do you mind my asking where you went? You didn’t make an appointment way in advance? Every salon and barber near where I live in East Vancouver is still closed. I’m open to suggestions from others, too. Thanks. (Hopefully, this isn’t too off-topic.)

    • Never mind. The salon closest to my house that looked closed was actually open when I called–hidden in plain sight, indeed. No need for an appointment, which surprised me, but I guess not everyone is comfortable making a mad dash to the barber/stylist just yet.

    • I just went to Great Clips. They have an app which lets you know which locations are open and lets you check in online. It even gives you a countdown to let you know when you need to show up at the store so you don’t have to wait around. Shouldn’t everything be like that nowadays?

  6. Hi do you know when the portable air conditioners come on sale ? And has anyone had problems with the brand when they bought it ? Thank you for your hard work

  7. Hey, not to sound ungrateful, but the changes you’ve made is impacting the usability of your site and the number one reason why people check out your site. Because it loads fast and you can quickly scroll thru everything without waiting for pictures to load. The problem has to do with ad-blockers that are preventing the pictures from loading.

    • Hi TG, I’ve been working with my host to diagnose the problem since I haven’t made any changes to the site in months. The problem only appears on all Android devices and Chrome users on Desktop. All Apple products and Desktop browsers other than Chrome seem to be working fine. We will keep looking into it.

  8. Hi, Just letting you know the photos aren’t loading well in Chrome for me today, seems better in Bing. I thought that might help your designer as you are working on the website. Not complaining, just trying to help you! As always, this list is so appreciated!! Thank you for all your work!

  9. Thank you for doing this every week!
For those thinking about trying the Costco butter chicken it’s very sweet and rich. Not quite like restaurant butter chicken. The tray is also super massive and could feed 10 people. So if you haven’t tried it split it with another family just in case it’s not to your liking.

  10. Does anyone know if the large Emerald Cedars are available with less than a 30 tree minimum purchase at any of the garden centers (as they have been prior to this year) ? I know the 30 tree minimum applies at Port Coquitlam (and it appears also Burnaby). Hoping maybe Langley or Abbotsford doesn’t have the minimum purchase condition.

  11. I am a subscriber and can’t see half the pictures, they won’t download for me. Not on my phone nor on my laptop.

  12. Hello Tynan

Does Costco ever have any of the Macbook Pro items on sale?

Thanks for all your hard work!

    • My family and I love the crispy jalapeños. They are a little spicy if you eat them straight up but are delicious on homemade pizza and sandwiches or hamburgers.

    • I would say “hot”. But they are good if you lie some adventure on top of a casserole or in a salad. Not something to eat like potato chips because they are not in the snack category.

  13. Just curious. After the weekly specials are shown, i notice the list afterwards which used to just show sale items and items on clearancem now list a lot of items that are just regular price, not on clearance or on sale. Why is that?
    Thank you.

    • Hi Stuart! Lately, if I see a new product that I’m interested in, I’ve been taking a picture of the item. I figure if I’m interested in it, then other people may be as well.

  14. The pictures are not fully loading this morning. There are a few in groups here or there but more missing that showing. I have refreshed the page and waited before scrolling a few times , but still only a few showing

  15. Was able to see the pictures, but it was a little glitchy. I had to click on where the picture would be and then it would pop up. Then I had to go back to be able to see about 3 pictures than having to click the picture again and so on. It could be my end but I just wanted to let you know. I appreciate your hard work. Thank you

  16. I’m not a subscriber but can’t see the pictures. I’ve refreshed and shut my phone down twice. Any suggestions?

  17. Hello, it is 3:36 PM PST in British Columbia and the items aren’t showing for nonsubscribers. I thought it was supposed to show after 5:00 AM PST? Thanks!
