Northrock Road Bikes! – Costco Sale Items for May 22-24, 2020 for BC, AB, MB, SK
Location: Langley, BC Costco Warehouse
SHOPPING REPORT:
Hi Everyone,
I’m happy to report that there was no line at Costco today when I arrived at 9:24AM. There was a staff member providing hand sanitizer and disposable masks at the entrance. This change is a result of a change in policy at Costco Canada where masks are being recommended. You will not be turned away from the store if you are not wearing a mask (unlike Costco in the USA), but I did notice that a majority of people were wearing masks in the store now. The new policy can be read here: https://www.costco.ca/coronavirus-response.html
Face Mask Requirement
- Public health experts recommend the use of masks or face coverings in public settings. To protect our members and employees, it is recommended that all Costco members and guests wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose, at all times while on Costco premises. This recommendation does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to solve the problem for users on Android devices or Desktop users using the Chrome browser. If anyone has any ideas what the problem is, please send me a message! In the meantime, if you are having problems downloading the pictures, please try using a different device or browser. The site seems to be working fine on Firefox, Internet Explorer and Apple devices.
This morning Costco was even selling Facemasks and Rubbing Alcohol. These were located right at the front of the store so you can’t miss it. Also, the Northrock Road bikes were being unpackaged as I was walking through the bike aisle. If you are looking for a beginner roadbike, this has always received great reviews for value!

Found a few Nortrock XC 29 Bikes at the Abbotsfors location and was able to purchase one. Just a heads up to read all the quick assembly instructions and double check that the person at Costco assembled it correctly (mine had 2 big mistakes that were easily fixed).
Yea it’s having some issues with the pictures. He mentioned that in the beginning of the post. Try scrolling up a bit and back down again. This trick seems to be working for my android phone via chrome.
I see the thumbnail preview and title of this post is for the Northrock bikes, but I don’t see any pictures of it?
Thanks for the reply. I figured the service person was wrong. The unfortunate thing is that all their bikes were gone within a day:( hopefully they will restock.
I went to the langley Costco today to purchase a Northrock XC29 bike and they didn’t have any. I asked at the service desk if they had any in the back and they said they are still waiting for them to be shipped. So not sure if the picture of the XC29 above is actually at the Langley costco or if the worker at the service desk is misinformed??
I took the pictures of the bikes on Friday morning at Langley. Maybe they sold out already?
So how long do the bikes last at Costco under normal circumstances? I’m waiting on a gift card from Aeroplan to buy one. I know we aren’t in normal circumstances, but I’d like to try to get some kind of gauge of things.
I know some of you are not going to agree, but I feel Costco like many retailers are taking advantage of us. It’s intuitively common to want to believe this doesn’t happen when it occurs regularly.
I was told both grocery stores and big box retailers like Costco are enjoying unprecedented profits on many of their products.
Given Costco’s purchasing power, I believe their prices for masks and bleach are much higher than they should be, even when taking into account marketing conditions. It’s like with celery last year. It was being sold for $9 a kilogram despite the fact there never was a shortage. It was fad driven because media was promoting the benefits of celery. Avocado is the same. The farmer still receives the same amount, but along the distribution chain, the prices skyrocket…think Apple products.
While prices may be going up driven by supply and demand, let’s not be naive and assume businesses aren’t gouging customers. We have already seen several so far come under fire trying to justify their inflated prices.
I don’t believe Costco is knowingly gouging their customers, they might be getting gouged by their supplier though. We have seen this across the world including Canada where even government procurement staff are desperate to find PPE and are unknowingly buying substandard and counterfeit supplies. Only upon examination “after the fact” by their “experts” do they realize what’s going on.
That’s a great deal on the Apple Watch, normally a 38mm with GPS & Cellular is $389, unfortunately my big wrist needs the 42mm does anyone know if they have them and the price? I checked the website and they’re not listed (neither are the 38mm w/ gps and cell)
Hydrogen peroxide a few weeks ago was $4.99 now it’s more than doubled. Prices are going up due to their lack of availability, processing and shipping.
That’s not a hydrogen peroxide. That’s an alcohol. Hydrogen Peroxide is the same price.
Costco charges accordingly to what they pay for the item. So if an item goes up in price in general you will pay more at Costco. If the item costs less in general you will pay less at Costco.
I think I’ll save my $40 and just use/reuse my home-sewn with love mask and wash it regularly. Even before covid I was getting pretty disgusted at the amount one single use waste there is in the world and made a pledge to break free from plastic wraps, baggies, grocery bags, straws, etc etc. In 2 months though, Covid set us all back a few years in that regard from where we had progressed to – now I see masks and gloves all over cots o parking lots. I didn’t realize Costco shopping folks also turned into litterbugs all over again. So disappointing. Let’s do better everyone.
The mask price is decent. I paid $5 more at London Drugs on Thursday for 50
@Jules,
I feel bad for you. The masks selling online are the perfect examples of price gouging and predatory pricing. Amazon has initially tried to stop sellers especially those selling counterfeit low quality masks.
While the quality varies, most reputable stores like Canadian Tire and drug stores like Rexall and London Drugs will sell these masks for less than the prices you have quoted. For example, , Canadian Tire sold 3 ply masks such as these for $49.99.
If you compare prices with Showcase, where their prices are outrageous. I expect an investigation is ongoing or will be held with their prices.
As far as Costco goes, these masks are selling for $.80 a piece. Some Loblaws locations including T&T have them as low as $.60 a piece or $29.99. Obviously, Costco wants to ensure their products are good quality but as one Costco staff member candidly said to me today “we don’t always have the lowest prices”.
Hi Felica,
I hear what you’re saying!
Some of the people I was helping buy masks for were in high risk categories or were working in high risk jobs and they could not find any masks (February) and were scared, as many people were. As we have seen, employers were not providing masks in the early stages, and some employers were advising employees who had them, to reuse masks. In a practical way, we had no choice but to buy what was available at the time. We sort of ‘sucked it up’ and felt relieved to find the ones in the $52+ price range. I feel the pinch when I see what we had to pay at the time…we are now relieved to see more masks on the market at more reasonable prices.
Some of our masks were purchased at Canadian Tire. Thank you for letting me know they are/have been available at Loblaws and T&T! It’s not always easy for older people and the people in high risk categories to even learn information such as this.
And another grateful thank you for this blog. But for the posts here, I would not be aware Costco had any masks at all! Plus, I save $ for my family shopping the sales because of this blog.
Wow! The price of Clorox Bleach has doubled in price! I remember buying this same set of bleach for only $7.99 in January. Now it cost $14.79. So glad I still have 2 bottles left from my last purchase. Yikes.
Thank you Coco West! Because of your post o went quickly to Costco and got some masks.
They seem expensive though. What do you think?
Yea I thought the same thing!! $40 wow. Little price gouging I think
Hi,
Due to health reasons, I’ve been buying masks (for family, friends & friends who work in care-giving situations) where I could find them since February. I’ve searched for and purchased many packages of masks. Frequently, the prices have been crazy-high, so I only purchased masks when I thought the price was ‘more reasonable’. Having said that, in my experience, a box of 50, 3 layer face masks has been priced between $52 & $59 CDN, when you could get them. I’ve seen packages of less than 50 sell for many times more $. With that in mind, when I saw the $39.99 price at Costco, I thought: “that’s not too bad”, given the other prices I have seen.
I think what it boils down to at the moment, is that Costco has them in stock, the price is fair given other prices out there, and you were able to purchase them for immediate use. I’m really glad for you and I’m thankful for this informative and money saving blog.
The best price I’ve seen is at T & T, $30 for 50, quality unknown.
Quality at T&T is comparable. Many won’t enter their store because wearing a mask is not an option. It’s mandatory. Some people don’t like being told what to do especially if they don’t like the message that’s being sent.
Cant see all the pics
Same here. It’s a known issue though.
