Weekend Update – Costco Sale Items for Apr 17-19, 2020 for BC, AB, MB, SK

Location: Langley, BC Costco Warehouse

SHOPPING REPORT:

Hi Everyone,

So I thought getting to Costco today early at 7:22AM, but the gamble did not pay off today.  Today, when I arrived, there was already a large line and Costco was opened up later that has been on Fridays.  I think the reason we had to wait was acceptable.  Today, Costco employees were allowed to get their shopping done 30 minutes before the rest of the public!  I did feel a little bad for them because they exited out one of the staff exits and had to walk past the giant line on their way out, but there have to be some perks to working at Costco 🙂

Anyways, I didn’t get into the store until 8:44AM and the doors opened at about 8:15AM.  This was the longest I’ve had to wait in line yet.

Anyways, I was rewarded with finally seeing the Tramontina 3 pack of non-stick pans.  I’ve been using these pans almost every day for over 2 years and they are finally starting to get a little grimy.  If you are starting to suffer from Starbucks withdrawal, you can pick up the Phillips Super Automatic Espresso / Cappuccino machine.

This weekend the Kirkland Chicken Penne Alfredo, the Chicken Pot Pie, and the Cinnamon Danishes are all on sale.

They also started bringing in more vegetables into the warehouse.  I saw eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and some peas in store.

We were actually able to go out in shorts and a T-shirt yesterday!  I can only hope that this weather will stick around for a while!

When I left the store at 9:33AM, the line was long.  Just so you know, there is already a line that snakes back 4 times along one side of the Costco warehouse, then they have blocked off another section of the parking lot for another line.  It is like Disneyland, but less fun.

Happy Shopping!

  1. People need to quit complaining about the lines at Costco .. I live in the Okanagan and have arrived midmorning to people being lined up all the way to the back by the loading docks (and there was a serpentine – line of 3 rows) .. It took 35 minutes to get into the store and then you could whiz through because you didn’t have to dodge carts .. face it people, this is Costco and some people will take longer than others … fact of life so accept it or go elsewhere. It is going to be like this for some time but in my opinion .. our Costco (Kelowna) is doing a good job .. they also have early shopping for seniors and medically challenged people but even then there will still always lineups. And I have to comment on the fact that someone said we are paying a membership and deserve better .. a regular membership being $60.00 – we are getting our moneys worth .. if you feel you aren’t go to Save On or Choices or Safeway .. buy the same quantities and see how much that costs you.

  2. I think this last week was WAY busier than normal because of the GST/CERB $$$ hitting peoples accounts so they wanted to stalk up

  3. Please don’t say ‘happy shopping’. There is nothing happy about shopping at Costco these days! Last week I went to the Abbotsford Costco. I went in the senior’s hours. I am shopping for my son’s family who have 3 children and are expecting a 4th so they are staying away from any stores. They need a lot of food, and they needed TP so I had to go early. I waited 1.5 hours!! Outside. When I was inside there were some people with 15 items in their cart. Obviously they had all the time in the world, and standing in the Costco line was their activity of the day. Something is wrong. If we are going to be with COVID for a while, Costco must do better!! They should have an appointment system with 1 available time for each member/wk, and you show up at your time and get in. Obviously they have our membership number, and it’s not open to the public like other grocery stores so they could easily set up this system. Either that, or we order everything available online, and pick up at the door. We are PAYING a membership to use Costco. They should be putting our money to work and developing a better system. The system they have is working for people who need entertainment and are in good enough health to stand in line for hours. It is not working for those who have busy lives (including children), or those who are not physically healthy enough to stand in line for hours.

  4. Anyone know anything about the bicycles that Costco sells? Prices, sizes? My kids are getting antsy, but I don’t want to take up valuable Costco space just to check…

  5. I was in that Langley line on Friday as well watching the employees walk past with their shopping. I guessed they were only able to do that once per week seeing as it looked as if most of them had full carts. There was also a fair sized line of first responders/health care workers that were able to go in first. I was there at 7:30 and got in at 8:45. Once inside shopping was pleasant, lots of extra cleaning is apparent, but several of the vegan items I was wanting were sold out.

  6. Costco downtown was about a half hour wait on Thursday at 10:00 am, but very disappointing inside. Their selection is very limited compared to other Costco’s. They did have some toilet paper, but no Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, bleach, hand soap and absolutely no sliced meats. Fresh veggies were extremely limited and not in great shape. If you want fancy cheese or a lot of dips this is the place though. I was not impressed. Parking is good though ($2/2hrs).

    • Wen in on Sat April 18 @11 am and they had Lysol, sanitizer and all types of meats. And all fresh veggies in very good shape. never been to the Downtown location to find their veggies not fresh. never.

  7. We too cancelled our membership.

I like what the store clerk’s union is proposing: once a week shopping only and one customer per person per store. If Costco implements this policy, the line-ups would be significantly reduced.

    • that would be awesome if it actually gets implemented. We have not been in costco (or leave our place really) for the past month or two for self quarantine but if they do this, I would totally go once a month :)!

  8. Thank you so much for your posts!
We must have been very close together at the Langley location because based on your timing I was basically exactly the same!

Thanks for letting us know about the employee shopping- do you know if that happens every Friday?
    Keep well!

  9. JUST A QUICK MENTION: THE SEA SOIL WAS IT’S USUAL PRICE OF $8.99 JUST 2 WEEKS AGO. NOW IT’S $11.99. WE’VE ALWAYS PURCHASED IT AT COSTCO BUT WITH A $3.00 INCREASE IN JUST 2 WEEKS, THEY CAN KEEP IT.

  10. Thanks for the update .. boy do I miss my Costco trips most weekend !
I would never usually consider Costco online but it’s been a lifesaver lately.
Other then tortilla chips everything has arrived well packed and undamaged .
Products change frequently throughout the day and night, I think Sunday morning have the best selection just an FYI !
So although I love going to Costco if you don’t want to venture in their store right now I highly recommend their online site.
A little pricer but that’s OK for now 🙂
    Stay safe everyone !

  11. My wife got to Costco as about 3pm and there was a 5-10 min wait. This morning my mom was there and she waited 30 minutes at around 11. this was in Nanaimo though

  12. Does anyone know if the line ups are worse/better in the evenings? Or any idea how the lineups look like downtown Vancouver (by stadium skytrain)?

    • From my experience at the Port Coquitlam Costco, the evenings have pretty long line-ups as well. I’ve had to wait close to 30-45 min last Thursday evening at around 7:00 pm.

    • I waited less than 10mins at 7pm today. Pretty quiet inside and was able to get most of my shopping list ticked off. Limit 2 paper towels/tp/facial tissue as compared to one at other stores. Not sure if it gets changed depending on time of day though.

    • DT location at 5pm on a Tuesday afternoon was 30-min wait. From what I hear of other people’s experience at different locations (e.g. Burnaby), it appears random and fluctuates over the course of the day.
