Costco Canada -Priority Access for Healthcare Workers and First Responders

Costco Canada – Priority Access for Healthcare Workers and First Responders

Location: Canada & US Warehouses

Hi Everyone,

Well the US launched this yesterday, but it wasn’t officially announced in Canada until this morning!

Costco is temporarily allowing priority access to our warehouses for Costco members who are healthcare workers and first responders such as police officers, EMTs and firefighters. Healthcare workers and first responders who present a Costco membership card and official identification of their role, will be allowed to move to the front of any line to enter the warehouse.

As you may know, the line-ups at Costco lately have been 30+ minutes or longer just to get into the warehouse.  This new policy will allow healthcare workers and first responders  to do their shopping and spend a little more of their precious time with their families!

The official announcement was made this morning on the Costco.ca Website:  https://www.costco.ca/coronavirus-response.html

  1. I work in the hospital kitchen serving food to patients room to room bed to bed everyday. However, I was not consider as a health care worker. Yesterday I went to Costco on Sumas Way I showed my ID to one of the Costco employee and she didn’t let me in. She look at my ID and said “You are just a patient food service not a nurse right?”. “Right ” I said. She told me that they only prioritize for nurses. I had to wait in the line for about 45 minutes just to get in because I’m a patient food service.

  2. How would it work if you worked at a care home but don’t have a photo ID (cause the work place doesn’t use photo IDs)? Tried calling one Costco. They don’t know.

    • I’ve tried to go in today with a signed piece of paper and ID. They did not accept it and said that I needed photo ID

  3. I called the Langley store today before I read this email and asked about front line workers and having priority access and they said to look for someone in a red or yellow vest and they will escort you in.

  4. I hope it includes all the people whose job it is to clean these hospitals. Custodians and workers who do laundry etc.

  5. Thank you for that! It’s hard when you finish your shift and try to get detergent, bleach, Lysol to clean our car, shoes, and scrubs or hands sanitizer… And you can’t find anything..

  6. I love this. My husband has been doing the costco runs, and he has seen elderly and visible healthcare workers, and hes been letting them butt in line.
