COVID 19 Costco Blog Update & Costco Winter Aisle 2020 Superpost! Books & DVDs
Location: Port Coquitlam, BC, Costco Warehouse
Hi Everyone!
It is hard to keep track of all the news coming out these days and I try my best not to get swept up in the 24 hour news cycle. Our family is extremely lucky that both parents can stay home. It looks like BC announced that daycare is still operating for pre-schoolers, but we will most likely keep everyone at home for the foreseeable future. If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep a 21 month old and a 4 year old busy – please let me know!
As for things at Costco there have been some major changes on how things work. The biggest change is that Costco is limiting the number of people inside the warehouse at one time. Downtown Vancouver is only letting a certain people in the store at a time. As one person leaves, another can enter. This system has been implemented to allow people the opportunity to practice “social distancing.”
Also, purchase limits on certain popular items have been implemented. For example, toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes all have limits. I have read that these are limits per day per member. For example if you try to bypass the limits by going through self checkout and doing two transactions, the system will deny the transaction.
As for me, I’ll keep doing the Monday Updates and the occasional weekend update for the time being (the kids go through a ton of milk and fridge space is at a premium these days) The Monday post will probably also be posted a little later. I’ll be getting to the store a little later in the day to allow the lines to die down a little 🙂
For all of you who are looking to pass the time with a good book (or occupy their kids with some activity books) I thought I would help you all out!
Stay safe and don’t forget to wash your hands everyone!
Happy Shopping!

Kudos to all Costco staff. By far the best handled retail store in this crisis. From the employee outside wiping down cart handles to the smiling staff in side, to the chairs set up in the middle of the aisles reminding people of social distancing, to the clerks at the checkouts smiling as they scan you out. By far the best handled experience I’ve had at Costco ever. Too the people hoarding toilet paper, there are no returns on any of these products when this is done. Guess you bought for LIfE!
Costco has self-checkouts??
We do in Saskatoon. Just recently put them in.
Is it true they’re refusing returns on TP, Lysol wipes, sanitizer, etc? I saw it posted on Facebook and cheered!
Yes. Sign posted listing those items the horders will want to return after this pandemic is over. Like tp kleenex wipes rice
Thanks so much. I was at Costco the other day and it seemed like everyone was efficiently shopping for their needs. No perusing of books! Your post is very helpful. Please stay safe.

Thanks for your diligence and time. We appreciate it!
Take care of yourself and your family.
I understand this website and Costco is your livelihood. Thank you. Please consider NOT going to Costco and not spending any time outside your home that isn’t absolutely necessary. We are all responsible for our part in self-isolation. Possibly a post on Costco online deals? Or more reviews of products you already have in your home? New product highlights, or expanding on articles in the Connections magazine? I offer these suggestions, as I believe that if I point out an issue, I shall always provide possibilities for alternative solutions. Stay safe.
Whoa, I knew I shouldn’t have looked at this. Now I want to go to Costco and I’m determined to stay home until I really need groceries haha.
At that age – I often stuck the kid(s) in the tub with some toys (or containers from the recycling/kitchen utensils keep it fresh) and sometimes bubbles and would get about 30-60 min of play out of it (I’d sit on the closed toilet with my laptop and work).
Your 4yo might like Cosmic Kids Yoga (YouTube or website) – she does stories that involve full-body yoga-like actions for young kids to follow along with. Super popular, and I’ve heard the teachers at school will do the odd one when the class needs to get some movement in addition to recess (Go Noodle is more popular but aimed a little older; she still might love it and it’s more fast-paced).
Did I miss the announcement of someone discovering toilet paper cures covid 19? Otherwise the hysteria over stocking tp is just bizarre …
To put things in perspective. At one location today where the line-up with limited admission was being managed with Costco employees and private hired security, the line up was from all the way back of the building to the front of the store. I would like to give a shout-out to all the hoarders and re-sellers. And thank you for not giving to the food bank either who are in desperate need as are others too /sarcasm
Costco restocks overnight and TP is sold out within an hour of opening despite the limits. Hoarders and re-sellers are strategically finding ways around the limit. And remember, should you get infected with COVID19, you end up on the throne every minute. And if you believe this you’ll also believe pigs can fly on their own.
Thanks for all of the work you do with these posts.
By chance, do you know if Costco restocks toilet paper each day?
They restock every morning 🙂
Something for the kids to do? Let the kids play in water in the tub every day. My son loved that. Maybe your kids love it too. Bring out the water toys!
